Jets to interview former Bears exec Jerry Angelo for G.M. opening
| Quote: | Add another name to the New York Jets interview list.
According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets will interview former Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo for their general manager position on Thursday.
Angelo served as the Bears general manager for 11 years before being fired following the 2011 season. If the Jets hired Angelo, it would be only his third different job since 1987. Angelo served as a director of player personnel from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1987-2000 before being named Bears general manager in 2001.
The Jets have also targeted Dolphins assistant G.M. Brian Gaine, Chargers director of player personnel Jimmy Raye, Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross and 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble. |

We're basically interviewing anyone we can get our hands on. We have six interviews scheduled for today and tomorrow. I wouldn't read too much into it yet. _________________

Not that I'm complaining or anything but I can't believe Marc Ross hasn't been hired yet. I was almost positive he'd be #1 on most teams list's and be gone already.
Hope he keeps getting passed up and stays with the Giants. _________________ 44 and 21 Once a Giant, always a Giant

If they hire him, he might just be a bad enough GM to not bring in any talent to challenge Sanchez for the starting job.
I want my LOLS! Keep Sanchez starting! _________________

That is the WORST possible candidate for any job envolving the sport of football. Jet's fans better be praying every waking moment of the day this does not happen. They will continue their downward spiral into the biggest laughing stock in the NFL. Angelo is seriously that bad. _________________

If the Jets are looking for a guy that will handle their cap situation well by getting it back under control in addition to a guy that is just an average talent evaluator then Jerry Angelo is their man.
During his time in Chicago JA made some good moves but also some really dumb boneheaded moves. His drafts for the most part were pretty bad but he did draft a few good gems in Lance Briggs, Charles Tillman, Tommie Harris, Greg Olsen, Matt Forte and Henry Melton.
The one thing he was more than average at was acquiring pro personnel free agents. If he were to be hired for the Jets I wouldn't exactly see it as a sky is falling predicament. After all he did end up hiring a good coach in Lovie Smith who got the Bears back to being relevant over the past few years by winning a few divisional titles and making a Super Bowl appearance. Good luck Jets. _________________

He's not close to a top candidate. We're just doing our due diligence and interviewing everyone. Yet, everyone loves an opportunity to bash the Jets. _________________

If the jets were to clean house they would be much more appealing to GMs.
had an urge to state the obvious. |

Why don't you make a topic of everybody the Jets have interviewed or plan too? _________________
