In this thread I've seen someone say that "Angelo isn't close to a top candidate" and that the Jets "haven't offered the job to anyone." Do Jet fans know something that reporters don't? Because from what I've heard from reporters, the Jets "can't even give away the job" and that Angelo is in fact a top candidate.
Same old freaking Jets man. Being a fan is painful. |
Those posts were from a day or two ago.
And don't believe any of the crap that Glazer says. | Jay Glazer, as in scoop? As in the best info man in business today? Huh? |
As in that extra scoop of ice cream he assuredly had?
His report is undeniably incorrect. Popp, the CFL GM guy, has outright said he wants the Jets GM job. |

In the annals of Perks Given to NFL General Managers, I would say that takes the cake. |
If they're offering up this type of thing and still can't land one of the top names, I think it really speaks to how poorly this situation is being viewed. They're clearly willing to pay whoever comes in. _________________

No, just Caldwell. They interviewed Raye, didn't give him it. _________________

He wasn't unlucky, he just outright sucked. | Well his first rounders got hurt more than just sucked. Colombo, Williams, Benson, Grossman all were injured their first year missing all or much of their rookie seasons. Colombo had another horrendous injury. We gave up on him and he then went and started for Dallas for the next five years or so.
He drafted some very good players as well including Tommie Harris.
He even traded for a guy who DIED before we had him a year. Can't get any unluckier than that.
His drafting lower in the draft was very good and not hit with the horrid luck.
Few of his draft picks were unwarranted or controversial at the time, either.
I wanted him fired because of the bad luck. And don't think the draft picks after 2006 were just his ideas. Smith had a major, if not THE major, role in all of them. |

Lol, I was waiting for that(blame Lovie). Angelo has a pretty miserable draft history and yet here you are blaming "bad luck" and then you're oh so happy to pawn it off on Lovie.
It's pretty clear that you don't think much of Lovie Smith. But at least be consistent. Angelo was far worse than Smith and trying to blame his terrible personnel decisions on Smith is pretty ridiculous.
And of the guys you mentioned, none of them panned out. Even the others who ended up starting on other teams never did anything to live up to their draft status.
Angelo made some good picks in his time as Bears GM but not nearly enough to outweigh all his terrible picks. _________________

Lol, I was waiting for that(blame Lovie). Angelo has a pretty miserable draft history and yet here you are blaming "bad luck" and then you're oh so happy to pawn it off on Lovie. If you want to look at the real history then you will see that Angelo built a pretty good team which went to the Super Bowl. Then Lovie was extended and demanded more control over personnel. This resulted in much more input. Remember, Smith and Angelo were from the same background and agreed more than they disagreed. They had the same strengths and weaknesses and same outlook on the game.
It's pretty clear that you don't think much of Lovie Smith. But at least be consistent. Angelo was far worse than Smith and trying to blame his terrible personnel decisions on Smith is pretty ridiculous. Do you seriously expect anyone who is familiar with the Bears believes all the ex-Ram bums that came through here were Angelo's ideas? Not a chance. There isn't a player we brought in who did not have Smith's approval or were here at his instigation.
And of the guys you mentioned, none of them panned out. Even the others who ended up starting on other teams never did anything to live up to their draft status. All are still playing in the league except Colombo who I believed retired. All have had longer than average pro careers.
Angelo made some good picks in his time as Bears GM but not nearly enough to outweigh all his terrible picks. | Terrible picks in retrospect are easy to complain about but the point is none of them were outrageous picks AT THE TIME. They were all consensus picks for that position in the draft.
And the reality is Angelo's teams were always at the door of the playoffs except for Smith's first year. And, believe me, this is not because Smith was a superior coach.
Nor is it true that he picked people just because he wanted to. They were all scouted by other people, evaluated by other people then not developed by other people. There is a lot more to player personnel than just picking someone. It is true that the buck stopped with Jerry and he paid the price for his mistakes. But he was not as bad as is claimed.
We didn't even HAVE a GM before he was hired. |
