Quote:
[Bus] Cook represents Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. And Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that an unnamed representative of Wilson (i.e., Cook or someone who works for him) called the Seahawks this week “insisting that something be done” to adjust Wilson’s slotted third-round rookie contract.

To be fair, he deserves it.

Not sure if this is strictly allowed under the CBA though. I thought there was a term in there that didn't allow rookie deals to be increased within the first two years. I might be misremembering this though.

His deal can't be raised I believe until after the 2014 season. Thats how the rookie contracts work.

I guess the only way to get past it is to cut him, and then sign him as a Free Agent? Kind of illogical though, sounds like a Madden move.

Bus Cook will just have to wait.

Let's see him play more than 1 year before they reward him. Clearly he deserve more money, but I Sherman is way ahead of him.

He deserves it. I say he out performed all other rookie QBs.

If the draft was a re do over he would of been a top15 pick, so at least give him that kind of money

The owners must have laughed all the way to the closest bar when the NFLPA agreed to the new CBA. The salary cap remains flat for a few years, there's a rookie cap in place and rookies can't renegotiate their contracts until the end of year 3.

The question is can he do anything to leverage a new contract according to the new CBA? Can the Hawks pay him more even if they wanted to?

It's adressed in the article. He'd have to clear waivers first and that's not happening.

That answers that.

If thats the case, I am not sure what Wilson and his agent are looking for.

What a surprise to see Bus Cook or his reps making such an idiotic statement .It's frightening that these agents advise players yet don't seem to know the terms of the CBA.
The main reason the NFLPA agreed to this was that the money saved on ridiculous contracts to rookies goes to veterans instead.
Wilson has had 1 exceptional year so he has outplayed his contract for 1 year of its 4 years.
Fans should actually be happy to see this sort of thing which means you have a good player cheaply thus leaving more money for other needs.
Wilson will get his payday in another 2 years and if he doesn't get as much as he would if he got a new deal today then that would probably mean he hasn't lived up to the promise he showed in his 1st year.

I bet Matt Flynn could get them to the playoffs just fine.

Plus, you can just look at what happened to the Jets with Sanchez.

'Hawks FO won't cave.

that's his wife.

and he deserves it. football is a violent sport. there's no way a starting QB should be making 300,000 or whatever he's making

His agent is dumb you don't see Shermans agent doing this probably because they know the rules.

I would laugh and hang up the phone. Russell Wilson can't get a raise until season 3
