Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
Seattle executive John Idzik has emerged as clear frontrunner to become Jets' new GM and could be offered the job as early as tonight. _________________

To be fair, you'd have said this about almost anyone not named Jerry Angelo... _________________

I would not have said this about Scott Cohen.
After Tom Gamble bombed his interview, Idzik and Ted Sundquist became my two favorites. _________________

Defence is loaded with talent and he has a good HC and a good defensive set up coaching wise.
He needs to sort out the offence. _________________

Him and Ted Sundquist are the 2 I would most want. John Idzik seems like a good candidate, a smart guy and has been around football his entire life, his father was a coach for the Jets and hes been more involved with scouting. Also heard he spent a lot of time watching film with coaches.
I would be happy with hiring him. _________________

Seattle have been good drafting so I like this hire. _________________

If he takes the job ... What are the chances he fires Rex after next season? _________________

I'd say anything less than a record above .500 at the halfway mark would be grounds for termination. _________________

Pretty high, IMO. Unless Rex backs up his talk about an attacking football team, I think he's out. It's not about wins necessarily, but about moving in the right direction. I think everyone knows the Jets roster is not talented. Firing someone for not bringing them to the playoffs would be ridiculous. There's no excuse for the blowouts, though. There's no excuse for being bullied by a few teams this past year. If Rex clearly demonstrates he has the team moving forward again, he might get another shot. As it stands now, I say probably a 60% chance he's done. |
