Hakeem Nicks isn't a WR? News to me. Manningham had an even better year than Nicks. Combined they had over 1500 yards. Steve Smith did well because he was great with Eli |
I forgot he was on the team Mybad but he was a rookie and Manningham hadn't broke out yet and yes it was because of Eli Steve was good |

If his knee checks out, a T2 type contract. I really wish that he was healthy. The team overall seems to tackle and play better when he's out there. I am afraid his 80 year old knees are shot. _________________

Bottom line is he makes the defense better |
No doubt he makes our defense much better, but we cannot use big money on players with major injury concerns |
Yea I agree they should try and make it team friendly but also keep in mind that he's an elite safety |
I think i will trust JRs judgment (financial, medical, etc) as to conviction of signing him, just as he did with Steve Smith.
Steve Smith with Giants= elite receiver.
Steve Smith chasing the money = 25 total receptions in two seasons.... |
I trust JR's choices but kenny already proven and it's not like he went on I.R this year |
how was Steve Smith not proven? and Kenny is still dealing with the same microfracture procedure as Smith was. the fact of the matter is that Philips is still a good player, absolutely worthwhile to have on the team, but he has not been the same player since the injury. |
Kenny Phillips has still played very well even after the surgery. I think Smith's struggles have more to do with his loss of athleticism than leaving the Giants.
And to suggest that a receiver who shattered the team reception record was a product of Eli is just ridiculous. He was on his way to another 100 catch, 1000+ yard season if it weren't for injuries. _________________

Agree completely. Kenny Phillips is, in my opinion, the most important player outside of the DL. His deep coverage skills are really needed, as we saw this year when our team got torched when he missed games. I think the Giants need to offer him an incentive-laden deal where he gets paid like a top 8 safety if he plays the majority of the games. You made a great point about his injury concerns too. He's really only been injured twice in 4 years.
Also a thought I had that nobody has mentioned... what about giving him the franchise tag? The projected number for a safety is $6.5 million (TE is $5.6; OL is $9.3). If he hits the open market as the best safety available, he is going to get at least that, if not more.I'd prefer the Giants lock KP up long-term, but tagging him to make sure he returns next year would be a great idea. _________________

I didn't even think about the franchise tag but I agree with everything he should be locked up long term |
