|
|
|
The team with the inferior regular-season record has won the last three Super Bowls, and six of the last seven. Only the 2008 Steelers have bucked this trend.
Super Bowl XL: Steelers (11-5) over Seahawks (13-3)
Super Bowl XLI: Colts (12-4) over Bears (13-3)
Super Bowl XLII: Giants (10-6) over Patriots (16-0)
Super Bowl XLIII: Steelers (12-4) over Cardinals (9-7)
Super Bowl XLIV: Saints (13-3) over Colts (14-2)
Super Bowl XLV: Packers (10-6) over Steelers (12-4)
Super Bowl XLVI: Giants (9-7) over Patriots (13-3)
Does this mean anything? Does it illustrate that "getting hot at the right time" matters more than it seems, or is it just a coincidence? Or is something else at work? _________________

Regular season records dont mean squat.
The only teams there that were DEFINITELY superior to the other team overall were the Pats over the Giants, but the Giants were a different team in both those postseasons than they were in the regular season. The 2006 Bears were the biggest overachievers of the last decade. Getting 13 wins and making the SB with Rexy at QB was a fluke, as proven in the following years.
The Saints or 2010 were just as good as the Colts.
The Packers IMO were better than the Steelers that year.
Do you have to get hot at the right time? Yes. but the regular season records mean absolutely nothing. _________________

I'm more interested in seeing the record of the final few weeks heading into the playoffs. Obviously, each team that reaches the Super Bowl won either 2 or 3 playoff games to get there, so I'm curious to see which teams had the momentum. _________________

Nah. This stuff is pretty much just superstition and usually whenever people notice something like this it ends not too long after. Keeps going this year though. _________________

All it means is the SB is a competetive game.
If this were a 20 SB streak I might take notice. _________________

Yeah, that's how I feel.
The Ravens are a team of destiny. They weren't "supposed" to win in each of their past two games. Without question. The 49ers however, were.
I really hope this holds true. Ray and Ed really deserve it and need to go out on top. _________________

I have said the winner of Broncos-Ravens will win the superbow.. Broncos and Ravens were the two best teams in the playoffs this season in my opinion. Its a shame they had to play divisional round. |

It makes me so sad to see a Seahawk loss in there
If this trend continues in this SB again, I might take notice though. Until then, coincidence. |

Do you have to get hot at the right time? Yes. but the regular season records mean absolutely nothing. | They went 11-5 in 2005 and were the #2 seed w/ Kyle Orton. It wasn't a fluke, the OL ran off a steep cliff, Thomas Jones was traded, Tank Johnson turned into a massive headcase and was released, Tommie Harris was never the same post-injury. It really wasn't the same team 2007 and beyond. _________________

It was still a fluke. Several players on your team had career years at the same time. Im not saying they were a bad team otherwise, but they were never truly a championship caliber team. _________________
