I am always shocked at how fast NFL players go broke.

I'm not. Most of them are terrible at simple arithmatic, let alone complex investments.

The common problems these guys face are:

1) Buddies asking them to invest in some dumb thing they made. That money is usually flushed down the toilet.

2) Spending like they make $5/million per year. Not a problem until they retire. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that if you save $10 million while you play, it will only take a few years to burn through that nest egg. Most of those guys don't know how to stop spending after they stop making absurd amounts of money (and to be fair, this problem isn't limited to NFL players or even athletes - many Americans spend every dime they make, some spend more than they make).

Side note: i always love when people point out how easy it should be save money when you make millions per year. Well, it should be easy if you make 50k per year too. Just spend less than you make. If you make 50k and spend 50k, you're just as bad as them. But this is a discussion for TAST.

Well first he has to lose the weight... Discontinuing the Michael Phelps diet should take care of that hurdle.

He saved most of it.

If he's taking this seriously, then he should get a shot somewhere. If nothing else, he can throw 70 yard Hail Marys at the end of a half/game.

He isn't going to be coming back. This guys career was over along time ago. What makes you think he can be better by not playing for 3 years

hes a dumb guy. He cant play qb in this league. Hes better off going somewhere where he can just dominate solely off his big body.

It would be awesome if he could reinvent himself as a bad as tight end or maybe defensive end (very good feet).

He is too dumb and unmotivated to be a QB and the leader of a team.

Yes, seeing JaMarcus as a bad tight end would indeed be awesome.

265, 4.68 40. He has the body and even though he is too dumb to be an NFL qb, his offensive knowledge should be sufficient to be a tight end.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, you can't start a comeback if your first goal is to just not be a fat [inappropriate/removed] anymore. Thats where half of Americans are at right now. Maybe they should start their comeback as well.

How can people say Jamarcus didn't have potential? He has arguably the biggest arm the NFL has ever seen, he just got his fat paycheck and stopped caring the second he was drafted. IF he has the motivation I could see someone signing him as a backup and then him getting a starting gig in a season or two if he performs.

IMO he had no potential. He had an arm but he wasn't accurate, couldn't put touch on the ball, was stupid, was lazy, didn't have very much success in college, had bad mechanics... I dunno, I thought it was clear as day and said I would never take him until the 2nd round and that is if I was desperate. Caught a lot of heat for it but whatever. Don't get wrapped up in the fact that a player can throw 80 yards from his knees. Big deal. Everything else about his game, sucked.

Didn't Jamarcus actually look pretty good at the end of his rookie year with the Raiders? I can't remember if he threw 2 or 3 TD passes against the Chargers then and looked like he had a future ahead of him.

Russell had like 2 good games his entire career. Hardly enough to warrant any consideration for "looking good". Raider fans drooled over one game at the end of his 2nd season I believe but it was something to hold on to for the optimistic side of the fan base.
