They're going after NFL Films. That's ridiculous and wreaks of lawyer and greedy family trying to squeeze every single penny out of this. | They're not going after NFL Films, they are stating in their case against the NFL, that NFL Films was contributory in the league's glorification of violent hits as evidenced in their films.
NFL Films is a property of the NFL _________________

Actually, that's not true- Jacob Bell, for starters. That's not the point, though- players today have the right and the information to make an informed choice. The NFL didn't have the right to make that choice for the other players in the past.
Seriously...it's hilarious that my employer can flat out lie about the risks of a job and then say it's my fault for believing them. And that's the defense I see everyone on the NFL's side of this making. |

It's a reach to blame the NFL for a suicide.
Questions you can ask.
Did he have a girlfriend? How was that relationship? How was his relationship with his family? Did he have any fights around the time of his death? How were his finances? Did he do drugs? Go back to his early career and before, did he ever show signs of depression? Did he ever do steroids?
The NFL shouldn't have too hard of a time finding another reason why he would kill himself and making it really uncomfortable for his family in the process if they want to. _________________

What do you think is more uncomfortable for them, answering tough questions or being w/o their father?
None of those questions are really going to matter anyway if they can prove that the NFL knew about the dangers of subconcussive events and CTE and lied about it to the players. That's what this case is really about, its not about money, its not about a greedy family trying to blame somebody else for the death of Seau, its about finding out what the NFL knew and when they knew it. _________________

It's a wrongful death suit. Even if it is their fault he has CTE it doesn't mean CTE was the cause of his suicide. And if its about that, why not join the class action suit? Because there is more money to be had for them if they go solo. _________________

The class action suit is about living players who are suffering from the effects of violent blows to the head, and are trying to get their medical bills covered. There are no medical bills to cover here. This is a different case, even though it has the same principal.
Do you understand how a wrongful death suit is awarded? The jury must determine what the earning potential is for somebody's lifetime. Seau had already maxed his earning potential. There is literally no money to be made, NONE. _________________

It points to a tactical decision to include every aspect of the NFL that profits off of the types of hits that could lead to the relevant types of injuries. In that regard, NFL Films is a necessary defendant.
It's easier for everybody to call the family money whores than actually consider all contingencies, though. _________________

The NFL shouldn't have too hard of a time finding another reason why he would kill himself and making it really uncomfortable for his family in the process if they want to. | There's a difference between:
It's unlikely that they'll win because there are so many other possible contributing factors that cannot be accounting for.
and
These people are money-grubbing idiots who have no shot at winning a suit like this. It's ridiculous.
Guess into which camp most people who have no earthly clue how the legal system does and should work fall. _________________

The problem with the wrongful death suit is that they would have to prove that the NFL's action or inaction directly resulted in Seau's death, though, no?
I just think that if the Seau family were to win this case, it would set an extremely dangerous precedent for what one can be considered liable for. Just being responsible for the conditions under which one makes the decision to commit suicide cannot make one liable for the decision by Seau. Ultimately we are the only ones who can decide how we choose to act.
This whole discussion kind of makes me thinnk of the Judas Priest suicide trial. |

Yeah I agree. This is all extremely scary. Football glorifies knock out shots. But the people want to see it. It's in our nature to see big hits. I'm sure the repercussions can not only be proven in the NFL but college and highschool. It's the elephant in the room. I don't take the NFL's side in this at all.
Yes the players sign the contract to play the game. But what choice do they have when they have basically been bred to play football their whole life and probably got BS degrees just to keep their GPA up. The pressure to take care of their families etc. It's not so black and white. |
