I think we're overlooking the Ol alot in most drafts. Got some good reasoning here so hear me out.
if we're to sign all our upcoming FA's (2013/2014) we'd have a huge "cap" situation. Figure walton and Zane sign "Kuper "similar contracts. Clady goes 10 mil. Well, we're all of a sudden a $25mil OL.
Can't afford it, but you want to maintain a very good-excellent OL. You need to have a continuing wave of cheap but quality talent. That comes in the form of 4 year contract draft choices.
if I were a GM, I'd be drafting OL between 2 and 4 every year. Resign some and let the others go to FA. Compensatory draft picks, reload and continue.
Somehow you've got to keep the cap # down on what many would consider the most important unit on a team. How else to do it?
Love to hear your thoughts. |
