| Quote: | | “Dave is a smart guy,” Dimitroff said. “He’s an intuitive football man and he has good people skills where he is able to understand and navigate through the challenges of an organization. He had an opportunity to do that as personnel director at our place. It was in an assistant setting, but I gave him a lot of leeway to run his department and evolve in a lot of different areas. It was really beneficial for him.” |
| Quote: | Adam Caplan, an NFL analyst for the past decade who appears weekly on Sirius XM Radio, said while the public may not know Caldwell, or Bradley, for that matter, people within the NFL know them well.
“The team has a direction now,” Caplan said. “You have a general manager who has won throughout his career, who has experienced winning everywhere he has been. He understands the draft and how you build a football team. He wants guys who are sustainable over time, and that’s what you have to do.
“You have an owner who’s willing to spend money to support in any way possible. He has a son who’s very smart – I love what Tony Khan’s doing – and you have a head coach who if you follow the league closely, he’s a special guy. Everything is positive.”
And as far as the Jaguars’ future, Caplan said, “The arrow is straight up.”
“I didn’t think the team had a prayer of winning last year,” Caplan said. “I love the direction. They’ve got their guys. They got what we think are two of the best guys. There’s a lot of work to be done on the roster. But these guys give you a direction. They give you a chance.” |

Judging from that picture of the three together, my main conclusion is...
Shahid should share some of his hair with Gus. |

In all seriousness though, it's nice that there's a real positive sort of buzz around this organization right now...
But forgive me if i wait to see what they actually do to improve this franchise before i pick up the pom poms and start doing high kicks. |

Didn't we hear a lot of the same stuff last year with the staff Mularkey put together?
I do like the direction we're going in, but I'm just sayin'
Just win, baby. _________________

No, they [people around the league] didn't think we were making the right moves nor did they think Gene and Mike were anything more then a band-aid. This shows Shad, being patient, is doing whatever he needs to, to make the franchise successful. _________________

I recall people saying that our staff was filled with respected positional coaches and that Mularkey was seen as a guy that "deserved a fair go at head coach and would be better there than as a coordinator"
The best WR coach doesn't come out of retirement just for anybody. Likewise, he doesn't just stick around after a year for just anybody so it's a good sign he decided to stick around (though he attributed a lot of that to not wanting to stop working with Shorts and B14ckmon).
People loved the trio of Mularkey, Bartkowski, and Olson as they were "QB guys" _________________

The talent on this team is atrocious. No coach in the NFL could get to 8-8 with it last year. I thought Murlarkey would have done better then he did but you have to look at the players, you can only blame a coach for so much. We lost in blow out fashion how many times this year? If anyone can say a different coach would have turned that blow out into a win with the same players is insane. _________________

Good coaching, coupled with a healthy roster could possibly have turned some of those blow outs into close losses and some of the close losses into wins. Not saying 8-8, but it could have been quite a bit better than 2-14. _________________

A lot of people were saying the same thing last year. Well, except for me, of course.
We can only wait and see. _________________

At this point, the only expectation I have is we show some growth and do better than 2-14. No excitement about how good we can be unless we address the QB situation with a clear "Franchise" guy. _________________

The rosters in 2011 and 2012 were better than the rosters in 2009 and 2010.
2009: 7-9
2010: 8-8
2011: 5-11
2012: 2-14
Three biggest differences from 2009/2010 and 2011/2012:
- Loss of QB David Garrard
- Harder schedules
- More injury issues _________________
