When Patrick Willis retires (which is a long way away), dwhere do you think he'll rank among defensive players or specifically inside linebackers of all time?

I think at least top 10 all-time, he may need a DPOY to put him higher.

Probably a Top-5 ILB of all time.

I don't know if he's going to get it. The first few years of his career were probably his best chance, and he hasn't gone from superstar to god like some others have done at this stage in their careers.

I don't see an ILB winning a DPOY for a long time. It will always go to the sack artist or DB with a lot of INTs. Lewis and Urlacher are the only ones to get a DPOY award since Sing in '88.

He's been named to the all-pro team every season he's played and he hasn't shown signs of slowing down. He will be a top 5 ILB.

Pretty damn consistent.

Could reach LT status. Probably not but maybe.

Who knows...

Singletary
Butkus
Lambert
Lewis
Huff
Nitschke

I could see him int he top ten if he continues to produce at the level he is, but I doubt he makes the top 5....

Well, in his first 6 years in the league:

6x pro bowler
6x all pro
3x time Alumni LB of the year
1x NFC Champ
AP defensive rookie of the year

He's on pace to be in the conversation for #1.

Willis needs a DPOY or at least a few seasons worthy of serious consideration for the award.

I believe he is a 5X All Pro not 6 but I could be mistaken.

Even when eliminating that bias, has Willis really deserved a DPOY? The consensus from my point of view seems to be that his peak year was 2009, and he didn't receive a single vote that year. In fact, he's only received 3 votes in his entire career.

Awards mean jack. He will go down as one if the all time great LB's. If they hold something like not winning DPOY against him they're stupid.

The award itself may not be meaningful, but the concept of it is. If Willis is never the best defensive player in any given year by any objective standard, that certainly shouldn't be ignored.

I'm just saying, James Harrison was elite for 2-3 years and won DPOY. I'll take the guy who's elite 7-8 years who didn't win the award.
