Yeah - the NFL.com story and Ian Rapaport really blew the lid of this secret. Every NFL team knew the 49ers were almost assuredly going to release Smith. The contract and their relationship with Smith and the fact that his understudy are the reasons the 49ers will have to release him, the story just is reiterating news that is months old now. _________________ GO SEAHAWKS GO!

They're overrated & not making the Playoffs next season.
8-8 or 9-7 best for Seattle. (& No Playoffs) |

Would love for the Chiefs to sign Alex Smith.
Helps us avoid taking a QB #1 overall, and if he doesn't work out we can take a QB in 2014.
If we can scoop him up for a 1 year deal it would be great risk/reward. |

| I think this is a pretty dumb move, I don't care how smith feels I'd keep him on as a backup. You are one bad hit from needing another QB and with Kaep still on his rookie contract I fail to see the benefit of trading Smith. Especially being a running QB you need a reliable backup what's better than having a starting caliber guy who knows the system. |

I don't think signing Alex should stop the Chiefs from drafting a franchise QB. I'd be surprised if he was a long-term solution. He is a great guy to hold the fort while you're developing a raw rookie.

Kaep doesn't run as much as you probably think he does and he doesn't sustain much contact when he does run anyway. He's smart about sliding or going out of bounds.
Besides, Alex makes $8.5 million this year and wants to start. He doesn't want to hold a clipboard. |

Its not about us wanting to keep him its about him not wanting to stay. _________________

| If we can afford to sign him, I'd trade a lot! I'd rather sign Goldson first... |

Smith is a very professional player who has put up with a lot of garbage in his career. But even with Jim he had limitations. As another 9ers fan said in another thread. "Alex smith (on the cards) playing the 9ers defense twice a year? Where can I sign up?
Smith takes soooo many sacks. He sees pressure and he turtles up and takes a sack.
I hope he does well elsewhere. Good luck Alex. I sure hope we can trade you to any team dumb enough to give up draft picks or players. _________________

Smith is better than any QB's coming out this year. KC should jump on it. _________________

That would be classic. _________________

Prior to injury his QBR was top 5 IIRC, that's worth a first right? _________________

If the 49ers were smart they'd trade him to AZ if possible... then that'll take care of AZ making any kind of improvement lmao _________________ (MLB)=A's, (NFL)=Raiders, (NBA)= Warriors

I hope he goes to the Chiefs. I need a good laugh.
I think he may actually end up in Buffalo though, hell, maybe even NY. _________________
