|
|
|
Notes:
--"PR" means "Pass Rusher". This could be DE or OLB, I simplify it to give myself less of a chance to look stupid.
--Many fans probably won't like the picks. Keep in mind that your team doesn't always draft someone you like.
--I am nowhere near an expert and have limited knowledge.
--If the pick is terrible, say something constructive instead of cussing me out (or after cussing me out).
--After the top 75 or 100, there are tons of players who could be considered in that range. A lot of it depends on the team's preferences, but its nearly impossible to determine who will wind up going from the 4th round on.
--***Denotes the pick was traded
Round 1:
1 . Kansas City Chiefs : Geno Smith - QB - West Virginia
---Smith will emerge the top rated QB, and seeing as the Chiefs' biggest need is QB, he'll be the pick.
2 . Jacksonville Jaguars : Star Lotulelei - DT - Utah
---Lotulelei is arguably the best player in the draft, and is a good fit for the Jags defense.
3 . Oakland Raiders : Barkevious Mingo - PR - LSU
---Many downplay Mingo as "just an athlete". This simply isn't true. However, his athletic ability will be what makes the difference between he and a few other pass rushers.
4 . Philadelphia Eagles : Damontre Moore - PR - Texas A&M
---Brandon Graham hasn't worked out so far, so other than Trent Cole the Eagles don't have anyone to rush the passer. Moore will help with that.
5 . Detroit Lions : Bjoern Werner - PR - Florida State
---Werner isn't as physically talented as some other rushers in this draft, but he is a hard worker and has a good attitude, both of which will help out the Detroit D.
6 . ***San Diego Chargers : Eric Fisher - OT - Central Michigan
---I foresee a Trent Williams/Russel Okung situation with Fisher and Joeckel. Both should be great tackles in the NFL, and the Chargers move up here to secure the guy they want.
7 . Arizona Cardinals : Luke Joeckel - OT - Texas A&M
---The Cardinals are happy here to stay put and land a top flight left tackle.
8 . Buffalo Bills : Jarvis Jones - PR - Georgia
---None of the other QB's have really established themselves, so the bills opt for the best available defender. Jones could go much higher than this, but he may have some frame issues, and the Spinal Stenosis is still a concern.
9 . ***Dallas Cowboys : Sheldon Richardson - DT - Missouri
---With the move to the 4-3, the Cowboys need to make some additions to the defensive line. Moving up here and securing a great interior rusher in Richardson makes sense.
10 . Tennessee Titans : Sharrif Floyd - DT - Florida
---Floyd is a great consolation prize here, and shold help out the Titans interior line play.
11 . ***Cleveland Browns : Dee Milliner - CB - Alabama
--Milliner isn't really a top corner prospect like Claiborne, Peterson, or Haden, but at 11 he's a solid value and will team well with Joe Haden in the Browns secondary.
12 . Miami Dolphins : Johnthan Banks - CB - Mississippi State
--The Dolphins were able to trade disappointing corner Vontae Davis, but they now need some players at corner. Banks is just a shade behind Milliner, and is a great corner in his own right.
13 . ***Saint Louis Rams : Lane Johnson - OT - Oklahoma
--Roger Saffold has had an up and down career, and it seems left tackle won't be the best spot for him. Johnson has been skyrocketing since the Senior Bowl, and should be the third tackle taken.
14 . ***Houston Texans : Cordarrelle Patterson - WR - Tennessee
---The Texans have plenty of young talent, but their offense is reliant on a few aging veterans. Adding Patterson will give them a better chance to compete right now, and will provide a #1 receiver for the future.
15 . New Orleans Saints : Dion Jordan - PR - Oregon
---Martez Wilson might get a shot at one OLB in the Saints 3-4, but they'll desperately need a pass rusher across from him.
16 . ***Tampa Bay Buccaneers : Kenny Vaccaro - S - Texas
---After missing out on the top 2 corners, the Buccs trade back and take the next best DB. Vaccaro teams well with Mark Barron, and the 2 will be one of the best safety tandems in the near future.
17 . Pittsburgh Steelers : Alec Ogletree - LB - Georgia
---Ogletree could go much higher than this, but at this spot the Steelers are happy to get another sideline-to-sideline backer.
18 . ***New York Jets : Ezekiel Ansah - PR - BYU
---Ansah is the best pass rusher available, and should team well with Quentin Coples for the Jets.
19 . New York Giants : Arthur Brown - LB - Kansas State
---Brown is very underrated, but has begun to pick up steam. He's a great linebacker and would be an excellent addition to the Giants D.
20 . Chicago Bears : Chance Warmack - OG - Alabama
---Warmack is just as good as, if not better than, David DeCastro was as a prospect. But as we saw, DeCastro fell into the 20's. The Bears need a left tackle, but with none worth this pick, they'll settle for an elite guard.
21 . Cincinnati Bengals : DeAndre Hopkins - WR - Clemson
---Hopkins will team well with AJ Green and Mo Sanu to form an even more potent offense.
22 . Saint Louis Rams (WAS) : Matt Elam - S - Florida
---The Rams could go with a receiver here, but the value will drop off more for safeties than receivers by their next pick, so they go with Elam here.
23 . Minnesota Vikings : Keenan Allen - WR - California
---Allen is the receiver they've needed since losing Sidney Rice to free agency.
24 . Indianapolis Colts : Jonathan Cooper - OL - North Carolina
---The Colts need to protect Luck, and Cooper is the best lineman available.
25 . Seattle Seahawks : Larry Warford - OG - Kentucky
---The Seahawks have a few young developmental guards, but none are starters as of right now. Warford starts from day 1 and makes their running game even stronger.
26 . ***New York Jets : Mike Glennon - QB - North Carolina State
--The Jets make their move up right now to grab their QB. They jump on the opportunity to move up so as not to lose Glennon to the Bills.
27 . ***Carolina Panthers : Tavon Austin - WR - West Virginia
--After missing out on the top offensive and defensive tackles, the Panthers move back and add the future replacement for Steve Smith.
28 . Denver Broncos : Desmond Trufant - CB - Washington
---Trufant has finally been showing off the talent that was seen in him early in his colegiate career, and has moved his way into the first round.
29 . New England Patriots : Kawaan Short - DT - Purdue
---Short is in a tier of his own between Richardson/Floyd and Williams/Hankins. The Pats take him to shore up the interior pass rush and take pressure off of the young secondary.
30 . Atlanta Falcons : Alex Okafor - PR - Texas
---The Falcons biggest weakness is pass rush. John Abraham is finally starting to slow down, and outside of him they don't have a solid all-around end.
31 . ***Arizona Cardinals : Tyler Wilson - QB - Arkansas
---Another move-up for a QB, the Cardinals make sure to land their guy.
32 . Baltimore Ravens : Kevin Minter - LB - LSU
---Minter will be the long-term replacement for Ray Lewis.
Round 2:
33 . Jacksonville Jaguars : Matt Barkley - QB - USC
34 . Kansas City Chiefs : Manti Te'o - LB - Notre Dame
35 . Philadelphia Eagles : Robert Alford - CB - Southeastern Louisiana
36 . Detroit Lions : Jordan Poyer - CB - Oregon State
37 . Cincinnati Bengals : Giovanni Bernard - RB - North Carolina
38 . ***San Francisco 49ers : Xavier Rhodes - DB - Florida State
39 . ***Green Bay Packers : Stepfan Taylor - RB - Stanford
40 . Tennessee Titans : Justin Pugh - OL - Syracuse
41 . Buffalo Bills : Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse
42 . Miami Dolphins : DJ Fluker - OT - Alabama
43 . Tampa Bay Buccaneers : Logan Ryan - CB - Rutgers
44 . Carolina Panthers : Johnathan Cyprien - S - Florida International
45 . San Diego Chargers : Eddie Lacy - RB - Alabama
46 . Saint Louis Rams : Justin Hunter - WR - Tennessee
47 . Dallas Cowboys : Kyle Long - OL - Oregon
48 . Pittsburgh Steelers : DJ Swearinger - S - South Carolina
49 . New York Giants : Barrett Jones - OL - Alabama
50 . Chicago Bears : Khaseem Greene - LB - Rutgers

52 . Minnesota Vikings : Sylvester Williams - DT - North Carolina
53 . Cincinnati Bengals : Sam Montgomery - PR - LSU
54 . Miami Dolphins : Zach Ertz - TE - Stanford

56 . Seattle Seahawks : Terrance Williams - WR - Baylor
57 . ***Carolina Panthers : Dallas Thomas - OL - Tennessee
58 . Denver Broncos : Montee Ball - RB - Wisconsin
59 . New England Patriots : Stedman Bailey - WR - West Virginia
60 . Atlanta Falcons : Tyler Eifert - TE - Notre Dame
61 . San Francisco 49ers : Datone Jones - DL - UCLA
62 . Baltimore Ravens : Margus Hunt - DL - SMU
Round 3:
63 . Kansas City Chiefs : Markus Wheaton - WR - Oregon State
64 . Jacksonville Jaguars : Menelik Watson - OT - Florida State
65 . Detroit Lions : Travis Frederick - C - Wisconsin
66 . Oakland Raiders : EJ Manuel - QB - Florida State
67 . Philadelphia Eagles : Johnathan Hankins - DT - Ohio State

I think the Vikings will probably be looking at WR in round 1, however Tavon Austin is a small receiver and I think it's time the Vikings try to land a bigger bodied receiver such as Keenan Allen who I personally think is a better WR prospect. _________________

You are correct. I do not like the Jets pick. I really don't think Vaccaro is head and shoulders over the rest of the safeties. Depending on how FA goes, safety isn't much of a need for the Jets. I think we may take a guy like Phillip Thomas on Day 2, but definitely not use a top 10 pick on the position. If we stay with pick 9, it will be used on either an offensive player or a pass rusher.
This is not a great situation for the Jets and one that would likely lead to a trade. If the Jets were to stay put, Dion Jordan and Chance Warmack would be the best two options. _________________

I was looking at Austin more as a replacement for Harvin.

I feel like Vaccaro will end up as the "Barron" of this draft. The Buccs didn't really think of him as a possibility last year (that I saw), but he was the pick and played very well. _________________

The Jets have too many needs to worry about the safety position this early in the draft. The position isn't all that important in a Rex Ryan defense. While they are both free agents, our two starters from last season, LaRon Landry and Yeremiah Bell, both played well. We also drafted two developmental safeties last season.
In the event that Landry leaves in free agency, I can see us going with Bell, Antonio Allen, Josh Bush, and either a cheap free agent or a mid-round pick. If a safety ends up being the BPA in the second or third, I could see us pulling the trigger. Our new DB coach was Phillip Thomas' DB coach in college and is the father of T.J. McDonald. _________________

Love the Patriots pick, but if the Ravens get Arthur Brown to replace Ray Lewis...rich getting richer, I tell you. _________________

| Bears will go most likely offense with the first 2 picks. O-Line is the biggest need and since Cooper and Fluker are still on he board, I think one of those guys will be the pick for sure. If not, then Tavon Austin. |

Short seems like the Patriots type of pick. Just about as good as the guys in front of him at his position, just doesn't go as high for some reason. As for Brown, I feel like he could find a home in the top 20, just didn't see the spot here.

Richardson and Floyd seem interchangeable to me right now, word is Floyd is rated higher right now, so he's the pick. _________________

Really bad pick for Minnesota. Keenan Allen would be an insanely easy pick there.
WR is definitely a big need, but Minnesota wants a big, outside reciever, not another slot receiver since they already have Harvin and Jarius Wright.
Even if Harvin ends up getting moved, Austin would still be a bad pick due to the Vikings already having his replacement at slot receiver in Wright and due to poor fit - the Vikings need a WR who will make plays down field, forcing safeties out of the box and away from Peterson, not another guy who is best catching the ball around the line of scrimmage and in the backfield. |

I'd still take Keenan Allen over Austin, but if Harvin is traded and they get a WR like Wallace, Bowe, or Jennings, I could see them taking Austin. _________________ Gnat's Movie Reviews
