49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Smith's record with the 49ers the past two seasons including playoffs is 20-8-1 and prior to been benched in favor of Colin Kaepernick in 2012 was leading the league in QB rating.

Smith is an effective passer in terms of keeping turnovers to a minimum [only 5 picks the past two seasons] but never passes for more than 17 TDs in a single season and has limited arm power.

An NFL source says that the framework of the deal is that the 49ers will get a No. 2 pick this year and a similar pick in the 2014 draft.

Chiefs will trade second-round pick this year - the top pick in second round - as well as another conditional mid-round pick in 2014.

A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.

So we assume they let Albert walk and draft Joeckel or Fisher?

I want to see what the Chiefs gave up for it to be official in my eyes. I know nothing will be official until March 12th, but if a reliable source says that we traded for him and says what we gave up then I'll believe it.

I believe it now, I'm just anxious to see what we gave up.

Source confirms @JayGlazer report of Alex Smith-Chiefs trade: "He's going to be a Chief." Source says it's for at least a 2nd rounder.

That's a lot of dough!

Didn't think it would be close to this, at all....

Mediocre QB going to a mediocre team. Chiefs really lose out on this deal.

Considering the second round pick is the first pick in the round in this year's draft, i would think that would be enough... for most people it would be considered to much already. But an additional second in 2014?

Reid will get the best out of him like Harbaugh did, I'm hoping.

That seems like a lot to give up for Smith. But I know Reid is good at getting the best out of QB's, so maybe he can keep Alex playing at a high level.

You will be disappointed again

Smith is not much better than Cassell....Smith was very mediocre before 2011
