| I'm reading that the Pats were given a chance to match the offer, and didn't... Don't understand that at all. First of all only $6M/year is pretty great for one of the most productive receivers of the past 5 years, and secondly they went and signed an inferior receiver for about the same amount... I just don't get this. |

At this point, Amendola is the better option of the two going forward. Welker's production has stemmed from being able to stay on the field, and DA has struggled to compare 'statistically' because of injuries. Whether or not you want to fault him for that is up to you, since injuries are a touchy subject. _________________

Welker has averaged 6.9 catches, 80 yards and .47 TDs per game in the last 3 years
Amendola has averaged 5.5 catches, 50 yards and .21 TDs per game in the last 3 years
Welker far outproduces him on a per game basis thus nullifying the "he only has better stats because he plays more" argument. You could definitely make the argument that Amendola is the better option going forward but Welker has clearly out produced him. |

Which as you can see from the post above you, that report wasn't true. _________________

That's nice and all but Amendola was on a pretty torrid pace this year before being injured. I don't really care what he did in 2010 in Shurmur's offense.
In 2012, he would have put up 100+ catches and 1000+ yards if not for being hurt.
And injuries are the reason the Rams let him walk. So that's a risk you take. But the gap between Welker and Amendola on the field, isn't much...if anything at all at this point in Welker's career. _________________

How could Brady not be pissed? They took his one not-TE weapon away from him that he could rely on for 10 catches a game.
Really baffling situation. Welker knows their system inside out and has great chemistry with Brady, you really can't go higher than 2 years/12 million to hold onto that? I know we all assume he's easily replaceable in the Pats offense, but why fix what isn't broken and doesn't cost you much? 6 million a year for 100+ receptions? That's kind of a steal. |

Danny Amendola is a cheaper alternative if they can get him.
Gronk/Hernandez are scrubs then? I would say Gronk is a bigger weapon.
But let's just assume that we all know more than Belichick |
Pats just signed Amendola to a 5yr 31mil deal.
(Welker 2yr 12mil w/DEN)
Basically they low balled Welker....so he felt betrayed & signed an average deal to be on a contender with Peyton.
then... NE replaces him with a less talented version of Wes for more money than he took to go to denver. terrrrible. |
I guess you didn't hear about Welker going back to the Pats with his DEN offer and asking them to match it so he would stay and they told him "no thanks"? |
Basically that says the Pats really didn't want Welker and were too chicken to just say so for fear of backlash from their fans....big streak of yellow down BB's back IMO _________________

So they could sign a younger more explosive WR Danny Amendola for longer than 2 seasons. |
Did he know that. _________________

How has amendola proven to be more explosive than Welker? Dude has like an 8.8 ypc average. |

Eye test? he is a bit faster than Welker if you watched both play. _________________
