My understanding is the Patriots also offered Talib a longer-term deal, and he had interest from 3 other clubs. He chose the one-year deal.

The Patriots' long-term offer to Talib was for five years, and based on how the market was going. One-year deal made way more sense for him.

Per source with knowledge, Talib passed on two other multi-year offers to stay in New England on one-year contract

He will use this season as a mulligan to show that his nose is clean and he has his act together. I was hoping for a multi-year deal though.

I'm shocked he was willing to take a 1-year deal.

Not shocking at all giving how badly the market has been going, look at some of the other deals... a lot of players were expected to get bigger contracts. [Sean Smith, Cliff Avril, Michael Bennett, etc...]

It was either take a 3/15 type deal, or take a a 1 year deal and try and get that big contract next offseason. He chose the latter.

So he personally chose the 1 year deal? Someone is going HAM this season! Very Happy

Damn! I was hoping the Browns would sign Talib. They need a cornerback and there's not many left.

Yeah, he's betting on next year's market being more lucrative. 5 to 6M/year is the 2013 FA CB market. That's the lowest in years.
