Good deal for both sides. Davis has become one of the best RTs in the league.

7.4 million per year is not "cheap as hell" for a RT. Makes him one of the highest paid RTs in the game.

Makes him the highest paid RT. Andre Smiths camp was looking for $9m per season which is ridiculous. Davis just set the ceiling...

Worth it.

He's developed to be one of the best RT in the league.

Compared to the 9 million Andre Smith wanted it is cheap as hell.

Yeah but he was never going to get that number. It wasn't realistic. If Aaron Rodgers asks for $40mil/year, does that make Joe Flacco cheap?

It's not cheap, but it's not terrible either. That's the going rate for a great RT right now.

EDIT: actually, looking back, Willie Anderson signed a 5 year, $32mil dollar deal back in 2006. He was widely considered the best RT in the game back then. So compared to that, i think this is a pretty good deal. But not because of what Andre is requesting.

It's an extension on top of the final 2 years of his rookie deal ... so itll probably average out to much less than 7.4 mil per over the course of the entire deal.

I almost broke my remote for this trade up. Now he's one of my favorite 49ers, he just loves to troll.

Good signing. He's greatly improved for them, and he's going to be around for a while.

Fun loving guy off the field who seems to be a tease. On the field, I'd say he probably has the scariest mean streak. He was a beast this past year, glad he's locked up.

So 49ers is this a matter of choosing Davis over Iupati at all? I would have thought Iupati would get locked up first.

And a good example of why arm-chair GM's shouldn't get too upset about the draft. Laughing

I thought this was a top 5 contract for a RT? I heard that somewhere this morning but can't remember.

Possibly. We have to re-sign Kaepernick and Aldon next year. Crabtree as well. I'd say Iupati is the lowest priority out of all 4 (5 including Davis).

Yes! Now we just need to lock up Iupati and our young oline core will be together for the forseeable future.
