I like him but I'm not upset we traded him. He hasn't gotten any better since his surprising rookie season like I thought he would. He was useless to us.

SMH...this thread is full of fail. Blount has potential if he doesnt get touched to make some highlights. He's not a BB guy though. Doesnt do the little things. Watch you guys will see....

Its pretty pointless to argue anyways, we got a player that wont play, Pats got a player that wont play and we used the pick on well...a trade to move up and get a player that wont play Laughing

Of course you would say that.

Go back months in our forum, we wanted him released in September. Hell, I started a thread BEFORE last season questioning why people think he's good. Nobody wanted him on the team, we were surprised we got a 7th round pick let alone a player as well.

Obviously guys don't follow him. They see the highlight or two he has had the past few seasons, look at his measurements and think he can do damage.

Pass pro, ball security, vision, running with purpose, mental makeup all can be crossed off of the list when talking about Blount.

If guys from our forum really liked him don't you think ONE maybe TWO of us would of been pissed...

Hopefully he pans out for the Pats then his #1 fan FirstDownFaulk can bump this shht Very Happy

You're right....a guy averaging 4.6 yards per on 426 carries over the last 3 seasons, running behind that garbage line in Tampa Bay is just a "few highlights" player...

Admit it....you're "bitter" he gave up in Tampa, he wouldn't be the first Laughing Laughing Laughing

Tampa Bay has a garbage line? News to me.

and what player has given up in Tampa? I can't think of a single player I was sad to see leave in recent years.

Literally nothing in your post makes sense. Look, go ahead and think Blount will be some world beater for you guys, frankly, I don't care. This isn't about being "bitter", we're not 12. I'm disappointed we lost Michael Bennett, he was a hell of a pass rusher. This has nothing to do with being "bitter", grow up.

Blount is not an effective NFL running back, and we have said why. If you expect him to play any type of role for the Pats this year, prepare to be let down big time.

Wasn't he retiring and returning to track?

I think he would be foolish to do that considering what he could make as an NFL player.

What is the earning potential of a track runner. I would assume you would have to be the best of the best to even make a decent living. Demps is guaranteed a six figure salary so long as he makes an NFL team.

Maybe it's not all about earning potential?

Track could be his passion.

Very true, but $405,000 would be a lot of money for a 23 year old to turn down in pursuit of passion. Seems foolish to do so given the insignificance of track in our society as professional sport.

He can earn half of that as a track runner with a potentially longer career and less risk of serious injury. And he's just a guy in football.

And last time I checked, there wasn't football in the Olympics. Demps has all-world speed and ability.

I'm not even a Bucs fan, I just happen to live the the TB area and I can tell you that the only way Blount can be effective is if he is the primary ball carrier like he was his first season. He is below avg as a catcher and blocker, also despite his size he'll disappoint you as a short yardage back. To me, he's the type of back who needs to get in a rhythm before he breaks that one highlight run for you. Since he is not a 3rd down back or a reliable short yardage back, he just did not have a role in the Bucs offense.

First of all...who said anything about being a "world beater" ?? Talk about over exaggerating for dramatic effect...Second, did I say that YOU were "bitter" ?? Third....I don't expect him to play any role other than being able to lessen the workload of the backs by taking his share.

If anyone is wrong in this thread, it's the extremists claiming that he's "garbage" and "nothing". All I've said is that he can be a contributor and given that he's compiled nearly 2000 yards and scored 13 times over his career of 426 carries...he's proven that he can produce.

I'm surprised the Pats traded for Blount considering they have a nice depth at that position already. Blount can't be too happy though. He's got a lot of competition just to be the #2 RB.

Belichick has a tendency to disappear guys who fumble on him, and Ridley basically ended any chance of a comeback by fumbling after getting concussed running into Pollard in the AFCC. Combine that with Brandon Bolden disappearing completely after his PED suspension, and there's room for Blount to emerge.

Either way, this was a project for project trade, so no harm no foul.

^ But Blount is the Tony Romo of running backs!

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5854/legarrette-blount

Quote:
ESPN Boston lists LeGarrette Blount as the No. 5 running back on the Patriots' depth chart. In terms of early-down backs, Blount is third behind Stevan Ridley and Brandon Bolden. Shane Vereen and Leon Washington are the passing-down backs. The Patriots did give up a seventh-round pick to get Blount, but he's certainly not a strong bet to make the final roster. Blount averaged 3.68 YPC last season and has nine fumbles on 426 NFL carries.

Where is Mr. Faulk...

But... but... Laughing

I don't think he's even in the discussionto be the #2 RB, his competition will be for a roster spot. If I had to guess, I suspect Blount and Demps will both see the waiver wire sometime in the next few months.

The Pats already have their RB roles pretty much established

workhorse back: Ridley
change of pace/receiving back: Vereen
3rd down back/return specialist: Washington

at best, Blount will compete with Brandon Bolden for the 'hammer' role in short yardage, and to mop up when the game is out of reach.

***Update***
Quote:
The value extends to Blount’s contract, which was renegotiated to consummate the trade.

Blount was scheduled to earn $1.2 million in base salary with the Buccaneers in 2013, with additional bonus money, but the deal was slashed to $630,000 with the Patriots (and is reduced to $358,000, via a split, if he lands on injured reserve).

Blount can also earn a $50,000 workout bonus in New England.

With that type of contract, it furthers the line of thinking that acquiring Blount is a low-risk, high-reward transaction.
