Quote: | Safety Reshad Jones, the Dolphins most productive and promising defensive back, did not attend Monday's offseason conditioning session according to a team source.
The club spent much of the morning trying to locate Jones, who until Monday had near perfect attendance in the offseason program.
The reason for Jones' absence is not completely known to the team's front office and coaches but there has been speculation among some teammates that Jones is unsatisfied with the progress -- or more accurately, the lack of progress -- in talks to extend his contract. |

Quote: | Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes was absent from the team's first organized team activity, held at Gillette Stadium on Monday, a league source confirms. The reason for the absence was unclear, but as colleague Mike Reiss noted on Sunday, Spikes has not been present much at the team's facility throughout the offseason. |

Both players might be holding out as both are entering the final year of their contracts with their teams and both had career years in 2012.
Spikes recorded 92 tackles a sack and 5 FFs in 15 games in 2012 while Jones recorded 94 tackles, a sack, 4 INTs and 2 FFs in 16 games.

***Update***
Quote: | Source close to Reshad Jones tells me he's not planning to show up for OTAs tomorrow, Wednesday or Thursday unless contract talks begin. |

Makes sense for both as they're underpaid for their production. |

Wow Jones had a very underrated year for the Dolphins. I don't blame him for holding out. _________________

Kam Chancellor getting paid probably pissed him off, given that they were both 5th rounders in 2010. |

I got the impression that the Dolphins' plan was to let Jones play out this year, and if he proved he was still the real deal, franchise him and work out a long-term deal. It will be interesting to see how they deal with this situation. |

Maybe he doesn't want to be in that position, he rather try to work out the long-term deal now before he's slapped with another 1-year contract situation. _________________

Well, that goes without saying. Interestingly enough, he showed up today. |
