I feel bad for Jaguar fans. Chris Polian was terrible with the Colts...

Orlovsky has too much experience here. Manziel doesn't stand a chance.

bill polian basically gave caldwell his start in the nfl, i see this as nothing more really than caldwell returning the favor and giving his (incompetent) son a job. hopefully he won't have much actual say in anything, because his stint in indy was atrocious.

It sucks that a lot of great work that Bill Polian did was trashed by people who associated Chris Polian's work with his. Worst father-son NFL nepotism since Paul Brown-Mike Brown...

A. Why him

B. Why after the draft.

A. Caldwell has worked with him in two different organizations. He feels comfortable with him and likes him. I think it makes sense to put him as Director of Pro Personnel. Just keep him away from the college side.

B. The scouting schedule is different from the common league schedule. By time Caldwell was hired, the scouts and personnel people in the organization had already put in a year of work on the 2013 draft. It's not practical for him to make sweeping changes 3-4 months before the draft. It's also why the old grading system for the Jaguars (by rounds) was kept in place (for this draft) - Caldwell will now implement a different grading system (by position) heading forward (I'm sure all work done so far for the 2014 draft has been done in this way or, at the least, the retained scouts and personnel people have already had everything adjusted).

I couldn't answer 'A' fairly.
But the answer to 'B' is easy. Teams generally change over their coaching staffs after the season and their scouting department after the draft. It wouldn't be very wise to can your scouting department and have 3 months to start from scratch preparing for the draft

Chris Polian is old and senile. He's lost it. Not sure what the Jaguars plan is for the future, but this isn't going to help.

This is the year 2012, not 1612.

Chris Polian looks like he's in his late forties or early fifties. Maybe you were thinking of Bill Polian?

(Maybe you were having a senior moment?)

Definitely thinking about Bill Polian! Chris never lost however, quite frankly he never had it!
