Don't mind this move for the Ravens, it's actually very similar to what I hope Seattle does. Michael Robinson is still playing good football as a heady veteran, but on a team looking to pinch pennies you have to make some salary cuts, and both of these teams have capable FBs waiting in the wings. I doubt Raven fans notice much of a difference if Ozzie is confident enough to let Leach walk. He's not as good as he once was.

This. I was looking to see what our backs could do behind Leach this year. Maybe they are signing another receiver with the cash.

But who will give us our behind the scenes look into the Seahawks locker room?

Leach was playing around 20 snaps a game with Caldwell calling the plays and that number can only go down with Juszcyzk on the roster as well. The offense is changing and Leach doesn't really fit that shift.

Even though he's still a good lead blocker, the role he'll play moving forward makes his current price tag excessive. I think Ozzie still has his eye on making another move, possibly at receiver, before the season starts, either via trade or if someone worthy comes up on the waiver wire, and he wants to have flexibility if such an opportunity arises. But even if we don't make a corresponding move and we cut Leach, we can roll that ~$4.3 million over into next year and it's probably a better use of that money than giving it to a fullback who doesn't get on the field very often. This as an offset to lock in Pitta long term right now could also be in the cards, though I'd be a little more surprised by that.

I actually think that's the reason most Seattle fans don't wanna lose him. I don't blame them Laughing

Not sure why people are mad / surprised at this.

Bad fit for a spread offense.
HUGE contract for not only a FB, but a FB who doesn't see more than 30% of offensive snaps.
Just drafted a more athletic, versatile H-Back in Juicecheck.
Age issues.

I'm just surprised it took this damn long. Maybe they wanted to let him do his White House visit while still on the roster or something? Idk. This move should've happened pre-draft.

It was rather expected amongst Ravens fans -- just surprised it wasn't done sooner.

Like others have said, the way our offense is shifting under Caldwell, we don't have as much of a need for a pure lead blocker -- Juice fits what Caldwell likes to do a lot more. I love Vonta, but his price tag just didn't fit his role moving forward.

Also, like somebody mentioned earlier, there's a decent chance that Ozzie makes a TC timeframe move, probably for a WR (or maybe even LT, who knows) and having this space ready makes it that much easier. Not to mention it helps free stuff up for extending priority players (Pitta, Torrey, etc).

My guess is that they wanted to wait until they had another FB on the roster so they waited to start talking to Leach until after they drafted Juszyczk. That way they would have more leverage in re-negotiating a contract, even if he didn't end up agreeing to the paycut either way. They wanted to pre-emptively fill the hole at FB before creating it.

Maybe this is why they might bring Jamarcus Russell in for a workout

Joke about him playing FB or serious comment (i.e. roster spot, freeing up money, etc.)?

I hope the Rams at least attempt to take him. Very young backfield, he has great experience and he is a very smart/impact full blocker

Any team that uses a lead blocker as a regular part of their offense should take a look at Leach. While I like Jorvorskie Lane, Leach would be a huge upgrade.

I think he would be great in TB or Atlanta.
