@ProFootballTalk: Lions sign DL Israel Idonije to one-year deal, per league source.

Formerly of the Bears.

Solid signing by the Lions. Improves depth and good spot-starter

Typical Detroit/Minnesota signing Green Bay/Chicago's trash.

(Obvious sarcasm is obvious)

Love it. Will be our #3 or #4 DT. Hated when we had to play him when he was on the Bears, I think he's pretty underrated.

Yeah, the dline should be pretty strong this year. Obviously our DT's are pretty good, and our DE's have a chance to be really good as well. The depth is starting to build up now too.

Not a bad signing at all! Capable of playing DE or DT so he's quite versatile. Probably not a starter at this stage of his career, but very good depth. Always felt Idonije was underrated, myself... he quietly put together a very good career in Chicago. I'd say he has some more left in the tank, too... the man has 20.5 sacks int he last three seasons.

Fantastic rotational player and is a solid ST player as well. Also watching Ziggy in college, I think Idonije will be a good mentor for him. Both are kind of tweener DT/DE players. I think Idonije can teach him a lot...

Why'd the bears let him go, 3 years and 20 sacks is hardly just a meh player, not 64 guys in the league have done that in that span i bet(2 starters per team)

Had the Browns stayed in the 4-3 I would have loved to sign him. Underrated pro imo.

One of those guys that you don't want as a full time starter but for his role he was really good. Surprised as well that the Bears would let him go...

He is very underrated. I wish we would have re-signed him. All he does is produce.

I still haven't the slightest clue why we didn't pony up a little money to sign him. The DE market was alarmingly cheap this year.

How did that happen? He goes to a division rival that already has a strong D line. And the Bears don't need him? A veteran here, a veteran there...this is bunko!
