Good move for both sides. The 49ers have several backs for this year and they can retain Lattimore for when Gore begins to decline in a year or two

Good decision. Give him a redshirt year to recover and learn the mental aspect of the game, then let him come back when he's physically 100% again.

He's a special talent.

Yeah, this was pretty much an accepted fact when we drafted him. He can use the time to get back his quickness and strength, and the team very simply won't have any need of him with Gore, Hunter, James, Dixon, and Hampton. Much better than him potentially rushing back and hurting his chances at a full recovery.

Definitely a good decision. Let him focus on getting healthy, and then on getting the playbook down. There's no need to push him, considering they have Gore, Hunter and LaMichael James.

Like the Ravens with Kapron Lewis-Moore, this was a great low risk, high reward draft pick that doesn't really have a time limit on it.

I hope the kid can get back to what he was, because he definitely had the ability to be a feature back in the NFL.

Gore has one last good heave in him. He'll give a solid 800+ this season (I'm expecting both a slight regression and more of a committee).

The niners had the luxury of stashing Marcus for a year or two.

Good move for both parties... Absolutely 0 need to rush Lattimore with the current depth for SF at RB

People been saying this for 2-3 years now. Laughing

His strength is in his vision, leg drive and understanding of angles. It's not so much his brute power or speed (things that go quickly). Not saying he will or won't regress, but stating it as fact is silly considering what he's accomplished throughout his career.

Slight regression, but I weigh my point more heavily on Committee than anything. There will be multiple backs with the ball in their hands this season. I don't think you want to give Gore more than 15 carries a game if you want him around for the post-season

Fair enough... and I would prefer a running-back-by-committee situation. But even at 15 carries a game, if he averages 4 YPC he's going to hit 960 yards. And with San Fran's O-Line, a hopefully further improved and matured Kaepernick and the aforementioned skill-set of Gore, I can't see him under that number.

I figured this was going to happen, and who can blame them...give him time to heal. Save Lattimore for a Lattirday.

Embarassed

As others have said, it's a smart decision for both sides. The 49ers don't need him right now and this gives time for Lattimore to heal. If Gore slows down in a year or two, then hopefully Lattimore will be there to replace him as the starter.
