He's definitely a player they need. Pettine should be able to use him effectively.

If he were to hit the open market, I think the Jets would also be major players for him.

Could Miami really splurge two years in a row?

We're $20 million under the cap

Hope he is benched for atleast the first two weeks. He hurt the team and doesn't know the playbook. I want Bills to tag him again next year just to get back at him.

We're going to have a lot more than that. After we cut Sanchez and Holmes, we might have over $40 million.

I'm sure we'll be looking to throw our hat in the ring. We'll finally be able to spend money on FA's again.

I'm just saying it will be possible to sign Byrd to a contract. Personally, I think they're going to value re-signing Soliai / Incognito more so.

EDIT: Grimes as well, if his play during TC / preseason carries over.

Vindictive much? I don't like hold outs either, but look no further than Dustin Keller to see why guys do it, he took a 1 year deal and now that might be the final nfl paycheck he cashes.

Yeah and now he doesn't know the defense and is not in football shape. He shouldn't see the field regardless. Everyone has been working and learning this defense since OTAs. He shouldnt expect to walk in and start with just two weeks of work. He just won't be up to par no matter how good he is.

But the point is that he wasn't going to make a dime more whether he signed the deal just before training camp or now, all he did was cost himself reps in the new defense.

The only surefire way he'd be guaranteed a chance to make more than he'd make on the franchise tender this year would be for him to sit out the entire season. The team and he couldn't reach a long term deal before the deadline, that sucks, but sitting around and throwing a tantrum about not getting his way didn't help either side.

You act as though he's done nothing but sit on his couch eating cheetos and drinking mountain dew Laughing

Still got two more preseason games and weeks, I'm sure he'll be good to go once the season rolls around. Certainly better than any other option the Bills currently have.

Okay. Feel free to spend more than $20 million a year for him. I'm down with that.

It's confirmed. The Bills didn't cave an inch and still retain the right to tag him again next year.

As for when he joins in, they shouldn't put a date on that at all. It should be whenever the coaches feel he'll be the best contributor. As good as Byrd is compared to the competition, unless he's been slacking on the physical conditioning, I expect that'll be week one.

I mean seriously, I don't know what the rules say about when he could see the playbook, but does anyone really think today was the first day he got his hands on it? It was in the best interest of both parties that he saw it earlier.
