Also confirmed with a number of other news outlets. Numbers sound like 4 years $24 million with $12 million guaranteed.

Excellent signing. Robison has quietly become one of the best 4-3 left ends in football.

Good.

He's been the best defensive lineman on a team with Jared Allen, Kevin Williams, Sharif Floyd and Everson Griffen. He's probably the most balanced 4-3 DE in the game.

well, looks like this will be the last year of Jared Allen in Minnesota.

Once we resign Everson Griffen, we'll have our starting DE's for the next 5 years.

Five years is too long. It's extremely difficult for non-elite players to have 10+ year starting careers, and Robison will be 35 in five years.

Robison hasn't been starting for 10 years. He was a rotational player for most of his career, this is only his 3rd season starting full-time. I think he should have another 3-4 years at this level of play...and then still be a good rotational guy for that last year.

Griffen rarely plays defensive end, what makes you think he can take over at right end? This signing has no impact on Allen. Griffen on the other hand wants to get paid and supposedly turned down a contract from the Vikings. Griffen is probably more likely to leave than Allen if I had to guess

Not too mention that Griffin still can't get on the field over either of those two guys.

Griffen could be a starter on another team, so he wants to be paid as one.
I don't have a problem with that. Just b/c he is a back DE, don't mean he should accept backup money in his 2nd contract, if his skill is that of a starter on another team.

Still a ways to go though, not sure what JA wants to do or price tag.

Griffen has more to gain by testing the market than Allen or Robison at this point. Griffen likely views himself as a starter and wants to be paid as such. Im not sure id make that commitment, MN has done a good job finding impact interior pass rushers who can backup at DE (Robison pre 2011 and Griffen now).

You greatly overestimate the longevity of the typical "solid" or "very good" starter. Most don't even make it to 30. I'd say Robison can give one more year of his peak level of play, although even that is no guarantee. Having it extend beyond that probably isn't too realistic. I'd expect a decline pretty soon, and I would expect that he'd almost certainly be out of the league by the time that contract ends.
