Source: #Bucs CB Johnthan Banks is the latest Tampa Bay player to have contracted MRSA.

Banks is the 3rd Buccaneer to contract MRSA this year, after Carl Nicks and Lawrence Tynes.

Also, it appears that Carl Nicks's MRSA has returned to his foot.

The NFL & NFLPA have just issued a joint statement saying Johnthan Banks has been cleared to play tomorrow. No risk of MRSA transmission.

Not good. Really not good. They need to take care of this ASAP. No place for this in the NFL.

This might be an out of line question, but can these players sue for improper working conditions. Seems like this came up a while ago and players are still getting infected. I know I wouldn't want to come to work under those conditions.

Sucks to hear Banks now has it too.

Banks' name was released by an anonymous source... that is almost as troubling as the repeated MRSA infections

Seems like a lot of leaks and lack of medical sanitation going on in the Tampa Bay organization. Wouldn't be surprised if the NFL steps in and starts throwing fines at them. This is simply unacceptable on both accounts.

That's the thing about MRSA, it never truly goes away. I got it from wrestling someone with it who had an open sore in high school, 4 years later and I still have it come back from time to time. Very likely all three guys will be lifetime carriers of it, which puts them at risk to become reinfected in the future.

MRSA can spread pretty easily, and do they really know what surface it is on? It is actually very prevalent in locker rooms (the Browns had this issue 5+ years ago if I recall) because it can be transferred to a lot of different surfaces: towels, benches, lockers, etc. In a warm, moist environment with a ton of people in close contact, you have perfect breeding grounds for this. You really have to start disinfecting things you wouldn't normally even think to disinfect.

I personally find it odd how the media says this disease is resistant to "some" antibiotics. It should read "most." The MR stands for "methilin resistant," which means the vast majority of penicilin-type drugs don't even touch it...you have to start using hardcore antibiotics on it for a long period of time, which can have serious side effects.

I feel really bad for the players that have contracted this. My dog had a methilin-resistant staph infection (different strain, though) and it put her through the ringer for a good 8 months. The side-effects from the drugs were almost as bad as the disease itself.

It's scary stuff, no doubt. My brother had a MRSA scare a couple years back so I know the deal. It's not something to take lightly, which is why I'm so disappointed that another player got it AFTER they cleaned the facilities.
