1. None of his other assistants had HC experience
2. O'Brien has already had some success at Penn St.

Are there any Penn St. fans salty about this? Wasn't he saying during the recruiting process to everyone that, "I'm not leaving", "I'm not leaving", "I promise"!

And then he literally straight up and left?

Truth is we don't know the full story right now so its hard to take a definitive stance. He allegedly told Holley he was staying and the Hack's were "comfortable with where BOB stood."

I'm confused about the whole thing to be honest. We lower his buyout, he starts making coaching changes, and (allegedly) tells recruits he's staying. IDK if PSU made the concessions he was asking for but I hope we showed we would. This program needs to improve spending in some areas (recruiting and facilities). Although increasing spending could be a bit of a PR situation with how close this is to the scandal.

I'll always be thankful for what he did here, and how he helped hold the program together. Even though it seemed clear that he wasn't here for the longhaul this still hurts. I really feel for the recruits and current players who are seemingly finding out that he's leaving over Twitter. That definitely will leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Sorry if that was a bit long winded but that's how I feel about it.

PS: Thanks for bringing Fitz/the new weight rooms, they're awesome.

I heard he wanted out bad, never wanted to leave the NFL but saw a chance to get into HC faster through a stint in the college regimes.

That's why he kept getting his buyout lowered.

Still doesn't make sense why the school would lower it. Unless Bill was going to do something crazy if they didn't.

He was my 3rd choice after Lovie and Whisenhunt, but I can get behind the hire. I cant wait to see what staff he assembles. Hopefully he bring some veteran guys on his staff to make his transition even easier. Cant wait to see a change in this offense!

If he came out, Texans can trade down a few spots and take him and get more picks in the process.

Or they could just stay put and take the best QB in the draft. Laughing

Niners blocked him from us last season.

Don't see why it'd be any different this season for the Texans.

I think it's a good hire but I can't help but feeling like the Lions and O'Brien would have been an even better fit. Detroit really missed out.

IIRC, You can only block an interview if it is for a horizontal move, if it is for a promotion (from position coach to coordinator) then the team has no say.
