Should have kept Schwartz if this is the replacement.

Not sure how reliable this guy is though.

Should the Lions go after a defensive minded coach? I would hate it, but I think Sean McDermott would be good for that role. He would take an already great D-line and make it spectacular.

Good move.

I don't think this is a good job like most people do. Really bad cap situation. I think Stafford is terrible but the organization seems committed to him so you're probably stuck with a bad QB taking up a large chunk of the cap.

They need to extend Suh who is in his final year of his contract and is slated to make something like 21 bills. If they do that and a couple other moves they can easily be sitting aroung 12-15 mill in cap space. Thats plenty to sign an another impact player plus they have the #10 pick.

Also, Stafford is FAR from terrible. He was excellent for the first 10 or 11 games and then struggled to close the season. Outside of Calvin, he had the worst group of misfits to throw the ball to in the NFL. He will be better once he has a #2 and #3 receiver that are competent.

11 teams hired a new HC prior to the 2009 season. 10 of those coaches have now since been replaced. Schwartz was one of only two to even see a fourth (or fifth) season.

Should have their pick of HC. Awesome roster of talent on both sides of the ball. This team is built to win. A coach is inheriting something workable in Detroit.

So I won't have to see Jim Schwartz's 'sucking a lemon' face next year in the NFL? This is a good thing.

The Detroit Lions getting a coach who might be able to actually get this team to play to its potential consistently? A very good thing for them.

Plenty of time to watch youtube videos of Jahvid Best now.

Hopefully they get someone who can instill a bit of discipline in them, they are a contender if they didn't throw away so many games.

Schwartz had taken them as far as he could and the Lions have been downsliding since they made the playoffs a few years ago. They have a great base of talent and had the franchise QBs for their 2 closest competitors out for big chunks of the season and they still couldn't close the deal with a relatively healthy roster.

Worst year ever for hiring head coaches?

Who is the one that remains?
