Guys who cover Dallas say this is speculation, and not fact. They don't expect Jerry to allow the move.

Would be sad to see him go. Guy is the truth. Only reason Kiffin was bearable.

If I were Marinelli, I'd quit. Dallas fired the only reason why he came there.

Kiffin hasn't been fired (yet, and sadly). Plus, people forget he knew Redball from Tampa.

Don't get me wrong. He loves Lovie. Only reason he would leave would be for his best friend. So it's not out of the realm.

In truth, I don't know how 'quitting' works in the NFL when looking for a job. Either way, I believe it is bad form to block someone from making a move they want.

Former Cal coach Jeff Tedford will be Lovie Smith's OC, and Rod Marinelli will be the Bucs' defensive coordinator, ESPN is reporting.

There is nothing that Jerry Jones can do unless he promotes Marinelli to asst. head coach. Otherwise, Marinelli is free to accept a promotion as asst. head coach/DC of Tampa if he so chooses.

Wrong. The rules were changed. Only a HC job cannot be blocked. All other "promotions" are block-able.

I see, did not realize that. I am not sure that is best for the league to inhibit promotion opportunities.

I agree. I think it was in part to try and curtail that obnoxious "Asst. Head Coach and LBer Coach" tag. Teams trying to poach excellent positional coaches with false titles. Either way, I am a big believe, if someone wants to go you should not stop them.

A #Cowboys source said he's not aware of team granting permission for Rod Marinelli to speak to Tampa Bay.

This is becoming sloppy as to how this is going down.

That would be a bad move. Good luck trying to get good assistants to go there if you start blocking upward mobility.

This is how I've always imagined how newly hired head coaches pick their staffs

Marinelli is a great hire, though. A lot of experience with Lovie and would do wonders with the talent that TB has on defense.

Lovie is smart he'll play more than enough man coverage

Another decent hire by Tampa. Methinks Tampa might be next year's Chiefs if they are as smart in the draft and free agency as they've been in hiring their coaches so far this year.

Colossal waste and I doubt Lovie changes to give him loads of man. Would be worth Tampa trying to trade him to save a 3rd rounder and stop them wasting millions.

Lovie will show that 2 shell all game long, it don't mean it's cover 2. Watch Bears 2012 if you want to see some of the most clever coverage disguises around. Also in 2012 w/ the best CB tandem in the NFL, the CBs played more man coverage than any other coverage scheme.

I posted this in the TB thread, I think there is a good possibility Charles Tillman follows Lovie to Tampa (and Devin Hester too). Who the hell do you throw against w/ the turnover machine that is Peanut on one side, and Revis Island on the other.
