Phil Emery just broke the news himself at his state of Bears presser

Halas Hall is now officially locked up tighter than Fort Knox.

Jay is on vacation w/ Kristin to celebrate her bday.

Without seeing the numbers, 7 years is a long time for a guy like Cutler. Interested in hearing Bears fans opinion.

7 year deals in the NFL are never worth the paper they are written on.

Love it. This is great news to kick off my year. We have our quarterback, a key piece on the OL locked up, and our ballhawk CB. Unfortunately this will probably mean they don't resign Charles Tillman.

*Edit* Keep hating. Cutler is worth it to the Bears. He makes the offense dangerous.

So glad they hired another GM like this. Thanks Emery for bringing Cutler back. NFCN fans thank you. Laughing

Your QB has showed an inability to stay healthy as well as an inability to lead his team to the playoffs. A 7 year deal is a big gamble. Hell, bringing him back at all is a big gamble.

Seriously, it's a 3-4 year deal spread out longer to reduce the signing bonus hit. If he lasts that long, they'll just extend him further to reduce what are, almost certainly, ridiculous cap numbers at the end of the deal.

His guarantee can only be spread over 4 years. Any money they want to save after that will have to turn salary to signing bonus and spread that out as well.

I understand the move, but Cutler is an average QB who can't beat GB, so the Bears will continue to be a team that fights for wildcards instead of NFC North crowns and hosting a playoff game. I suppose they could still draft a Jimmy G or Brett Smith though.
