That makes six starters.

Oof.

Hightower will slide over to Mike, which he was all but certain to do next year, anyway.
It does leave them very thin at LB.
Might end up seeing Ninkovich spend some time at Will now, with Fletcher as the nickel guy.

Over the course of the season, their linebacking core has gone from their strongest unit (QB aside) to possibly their weakest.

No, DT.

No, DT.

I was considering the defensive line as one whole unit.

Hightower is the sole survivor of our starting LBers.

Doesn't hurt vs the Colts but should down the stretch for a super bowl. Though i hope we resign Spikes.

How has Hightower been lately. I remember hearing a month or two ago that he was really disappointing.

Seems to be improving week by week.
Moving to MLB will likely prove beneficial to him since that's more his natural position.

This is bad. Spikes was able to save our run defense to some degree after Wilfork, Kelly and Mayo went down. An excellent run defender. This is really bad...

That's a tough loss for the Pats. I think Spikes is one of the more underrated LBs around the league.

Apparently he's been carrying a knee injury for weeks. He's certainly been playing like it. On the face of it this hurts an already depleted D, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is no noticeable drop-off.

That leaves Jones, Ninkovich, Hightower, Talib, and McCourty as the only original 5 defensive starters left....5 of the other 6 starting now are rookies (Jones, Vellano, Collins, Ryan, Harmon).

Its no mystery as to why this team has turned into a ball control offense and scrapped the no-huddle.

From what I understand, hes been playing through a ligament tear (or at least a partial tear) for weeks.
