What I'm hearing is that they offered to keep him but hire someone else to be the final word on personnel, and Ireland was like "nah, son, I'm out."

Yeah, I know the Browns fired Chudzinski so there is a precedent, but it would be unfortunate to see the Dolphins essentially start over from scratch by firing Philbin.

I think the new GM will now get full control and I doubt he'll wan to keep him. It's rare GM's don't clean house when they have a chance, and when they keep a HC they generally do with a guy who's proven a lot more in the game than Philbin.

Good riddance. All I can see is him being so arrogant when he informed Vontae Davis he was traded to the Colts on HardKnocks.

The Dolphins should have done this ages ago but better late than never.

This is the part where Jeff Ireland gets with Dez Bryant's mom and they make a romantic comedy out of it.

Without him we never would have had the Jeff Ireland Mother's Day card, which always makes chuckle.

I bet it was more like "If you leave right now, we won't make security escort you out".

He really didn't do anything to deserve another chance. With all of the locker room problems, and disappointment, I'm surprised they haven't fired everybody down to the towel boy.

I'm guessing Philbin's next. If he is fired, do you guys think he get's another HC shot, or would he go back to being an OC for a year.

Wow. Dolphins are no longer my pre-season prediction for #1 overall pick.

But in the end, the mess starts from the top and that's owner Stephen Ross. I'll never take the Dolphins seriously until he changes his ways.

This is like the Mike Munchak firing.

Titans: You can stay but we're firing all your staff.
Munchak: Ah...why don't I just leave to.
Titans: Let me get the door for you...

Thank god.

Also, I find it funny people think this means the end for Philbin. It is VERY likely he gets one more year, because Stephen Ross thinks very highly of him.

I think you're right. I think the new GM will have to agree to not fire Philbin right now. Kind of like the Jets last year keeping Ryan around. IIRC Ross was Impressed with Philbin's handling of the bullying situation.
