Bengals have lost everything. They won't be the same team next year. For better or for worse. Except Andy Dalton, they kept him.
Losing Gruden and replacing him with Hue was a lateral move at worst. Losing Zim is big though.

So who's going to be Cincinnati's next coordinator? It will be interesting to see how they do next year. The Bengals have a lot of talent on defense, but Zimmer was a great coordinator who probably won't be easy to replace.

Paul Guenther, who is apparently a hot commodity. Wanted in Cincy (already on staff), Minnesota and Washington. And those last two are going to offer him contracts without interviewing. So yeah...

If he leaves, it'll be Jim Schwartz.

Edit - Nope - MY bad, was thinking of a different Paul. Embarassed

From last night.

Quote:
One person with knowledge of the situation said Tuesday that Guenther would stay in Cincinnati and replace Zimmer as the Bengals’ defensive coordinator if Zimmer leaves for a head coaching job. Zimmer reportedly had a second interview Tuesday for the Minnesota Vikings’ head coaching vacancy.
...
The Bengals also appear to be pushing to keep Guenther even if Zimmer remains in Cincinnati. A person with ties to that team said he suspects Guenther would stay with the Bengals either way.

No, I was confused and edited my post, because for a second there, I thought you were referring to this paul:

Good hire, especially if they hire Norv Turner as OC. That would be a very nice combo. I think Zimmer will definitely be better than Frazier, who was pretty awful.

And even if Zimmer fails, at least the Vikings gave a guy who deserved a chance a shot. Instead of hiring a proven loser coach like Jim Caldwell.

Polar opposites in terms of personality. Zimmer is an in your face guy while Fraizer isnt.

THIS shouldve been Detroit's hire.

Very good hire for the Vikes. With a better QB they may compete next year.

Minneapolis is much more desirable than Detroit.

Big fan of this move.

If they can find a decent QB, I fancy them to pose a threat in the NFC next year.

Without question the best coaching hire of the off season.

Does this make them instant SB contenders next year?

Detroit was definitely the more desirable job. When you look at the rosters it's pretty obvious that they have a lot more elite talent than we do.

If they strike out on Guenther, I wonder if Zimmer would reach out to the currently jobless Clancy Pendergast

I wonder if this could improve the chances of Jared Allen being brought back on a reasonable contract?
