Sean was 2nd string @ OTA's today, turns out this is the reason.

Quote:
The driver, later identified as Chiefs Cornerback Sean Smith appeared confused and began mumbling statements that the officer did not understand.

Quote:
The KCTV-5 report says there were three citations:

Operating a vehicle of a BAC of 0.08 or more
Driving a vehicle in a careless manner by attempting to make a left turn at an intersection and failing to slow down causing the vehicle to run into a light polce
No insurance

Seriously.. didn't even have insurance. This is absolute knuckleheaded nonsense by Sean! Very disappointed.

As for the Chiefs secondary, where Brandon Flowers is rumored to be a bit at odds with the Chiefs and now Sean Smith is likely to miss a few games.. not a good deal.

A few years ago Tamba had an off season issue that cause him to miss a few and his season never really felt on track after that. Missing games, shaming yourself and letting down your teammates, it takes a greater toll than some of these players really recognize. The Chiefs face the Broncos week 2 and the Patriots week 4 and he certainly could be considered in doubt for those.

Flowers leverage (trade rumors were floating about him and the rift rumors were that the Chiefs wanted him to take a pay cut) to the Chiefs certainly just increased. I can't imagine opening the season without Smith OR Flowers (if any of the rumors came true)!

Sad

$7 million guaranteed over 3 years can't buy a cab or insurance, I guess.

The cab part I get, I mean if you are hammered, you don't make rational decisions. I know I'm guilty of thinking "I'm good to drive".

The insurance part, idk.

It's all stupid. Very very stupid.

But the car service. Who is going to call their employer to get a ride when they're loaded on a work night? No way would I believe that's not going to be held against me.

Ok, so then, why not use a couple hundred bucks from your multi-million dollar salary to hire a cab yourself...? And that's assuming, of course, there isn't some sort of privacy clause within the league's free cab service, which there probably is.

There really is no excuse one way or the other.

I think that would be a very good idea.

It's run by the NFLPA, they don't want that info getting to teams
