As he should, Mike Pouncey is one of the few Centers I think is better than Maurkice.

Don't agree with that one. I think Maurkice is the better Pouncey but they're same tier. Kalil is clearly the #1 and then there's a mad mixup of Sullivan, Mack, Pouncey, Pouncey, Unger, and Kelce.

I'd put Pouncey (ours) and Unger in the 3rd tier

I'd like to see him actually play as well as he did his rookie season.

13M guaranteed isn't half bad. the $44M is pretty insane, but not real relevant as far as I'm concerned.

Kalil
Mack
Kelce
Sullivan
Pouncey

are definitely better

arguments can be made for Unger, Wisniewski, Frederick, Myers (still), and Ramirez

considering Pouncey has regressed since his rookie season I'd PRESENTLY take almost any of those guys over Pouncey

with that said, if Pouncey is fully recovered, I expect he will earn his $44M. I think he, like much of our offensive line talent, has regressed since their collegiate days and rookie seasons.

Adams was much better in 2012 than 2013.
Gilbert was better his rookie year and has regressed.
Pouncey was better his rookie year and has regressed.

I think that speaks to coaching. I think Munchak makes an absolutely enormous difference in this OL. (at least I darn sure hope so)

I imagine thats much worse.

I'm confused

He's an Eagles fan, who thinks his Center is the best, but he's only being paid like 7th highest.

Still confused?

O this is the whole "Jason Kelce is da best" Gotcha.

lol

Have to see the specifics still, but just looking at the base money, I'm not sure I'd like this deal if I was a Steelers fan. Low end top 10 player at a relatively low priority position does not warrant that, to me.

Center might be the most important position on the OL, depending on who you ask. How is it not important?

I said low priority, largely in financial terms. Not necessarily unimportant. The gap between an average C in this league and a top 5 C is not all that substantial. I would rather pay an average C half that, than pay Pouncey, a good, but altogether unremarkable player, what he's now getting.

It's like K. They're valuable, yes, but 16 kickers last year missed 3 or fewer field goals.

I'd rather let someone else pay the premium price, take my chance with the field, and be able to invest that extra $20 - $30 mil in other players.

If anything his rookie season was the one that was drastically overrated...

I don't think people realize just how average Center play has been since Brad Meester and Jeff Saturday started to decline.

The bolded really isnt true at all...but it really depends on how far you go beyond the top 5. The difference between a top 5 center and the 15th rated center is pretty big.

Also, its easier to get by with an "average" center when you have better pieces on the OLine. We really dont have much talent on the OLine as it is, and while I think we may have overpaid for Mo, I realize that we cant afford to lose our most talented OLineman....even if he isnt notably great. (although I think Munchak will get more out of him)

I agree with most of what you said though.

I also dont like the fact that we paid that much to him coming of a bad knee injury.

I actually agree and have been saying it for awhile.

There really arent many great centers in this league, and most of the league is comprised of pretty mediocre players at center.

IMO, there arent any truly elite centers in todays game, there are maybe 5 or 6 great ones, 4 or 5 good ones, and the rest are average or worse.

Yup. This too. Though Mangold did have a little while in there where he was pretty great.

Personally think he was overrated most of his career.

Question - what the hell has Pouncey done for the Steelers OL since he's been on the team? They've been consistently poor at running the football and can't protect their QB. He missed two of the most important games of his career. The most important without question.

He's the heart and soul of an OL that has been terrible. Not only bad, but stupid, as well. They routinely miss assignments. Considering that's another big aspect of the job...

The Steelers love Pouncey. I think coaches think highly of him. I just don't see it. I've tried.

The best thing I can say is he's still only 25, and he has what should be the best OL coach of his career. It's a young OL, but if they don't get significantly better play from the entire unit, it's a waste of money.

Pouncey could be all world, but if the OL as a unit gets the same results, it means nothing. That's the issue with pouring money into the center position. He's not Hutchinson or an elite LT. Those guys are rare, but they actually can individually make a difference. Pouncey hasn't done that to this point in his career.
