David Pollack...
Good complement to KGB and probably the safest pick of the DE's coming out this year. Unquestionable character, work ethic, and intensity outweigh the mediocre combine performance.
I haven't looked at many 2nd round projections, but I think we can find a solid LB and S with our later picks.
I'd honestly be happy if we used every draft pick in the first four rounds on defense... our other needs (OL, QB) can often be filled with late round choices. |

I think either David Pollack or Channing Crowder.
But deffinatly not Alex Smith because Favre has come back and i think that drafting him would be a waste of a pick because we could draft Pollack or Crowder and put him in right away and he could make a big impact.....just like Barnett did. Plus we got Nall and O'Sullivan, and i really think that Nall deserves that starting role when Favre does retire...so Alex Smith is out of the question to be drafted by us. |

I voted for Smith, but I would like Crowder now. I wish I could change my vote. _________________

We need a CB more than anything. That guy from Auburn looks good if we cant get Pac-Man Jones. _________________ pAcK Is bAcK

We do not need another corner. Have some faith in Carrol and Thomas. Do not draft secondary in round one. _________________

You kidding me? I have tons of faith in Carrol and Thomas heck i am the one in madden changed Carrol to like 85 overal because of his potental and how good he is. But we need to think of the future. Favres gona last maybe another 3 or 4 years max. We should make strides to a great d-fense so when he leaves if our o-fense struggles we have a d to save us. _________________ pAcK Is bAcK

If you look, though, a great defense does not always amount to playoffs. Washington hada great defense and a crap offense, and they end up with the 9th draft pick. We need to keep our offense going, no matter what. _________________

But a street goes two ways, look at great d-fenses that have won championships, the Bucs in 2002, the Pats most of the time, the only way the pats even beat the eagles in this years SB was because of its defense. _________________ pAcK Is bAcK

we can probably get a veteran nickel corner in FA. we have to address the S problem. there's talk of moving Thomas to S just to try it out, it'd be nice to have that kind of recovery/cover speed at S but i don't know how well it work with his tackling.
Alex Smith isn't going to fall to us so that's just silly to vote for him, especially for him to get a such a high percentage. if you want to consider that then why wasn't Antrelle Rolle on there he's gonna be a stud and will probably go after Smith.
hopefully TT will take the best defensvie player available. even though our secondary is were we're hurting the most. _________________

A DE opposite KGB is definitely the biggest need. Pollack or Shaun Cody would be good fits, IMO.
If the good DE's are gone at 24, and Crowder is there, grab him. An upgrade at LB (OLB or ILB (if Barnett is moved outside)) would certainly help.
My preference would be to take a DE in round 1 and get a LB and a S in round 2. Don't take a CB until at least round 3, probably 4. We need to give our top 2 draft picks from last year a little more time to see if they develop. Plus, if we add a quality (or at least decent) pass rush opposite KGB, forcing QB's to make quicker decisions, this should help our secondary. I am a firm believer that a good D-Line can do more good to help a weak secondary than a good secondary can to help a weak D-Line.
One possibility for first two rounds...
1)Pollack, DE, Georgia
2A) Shazor, S, Michigan
2B) Ruud, LB, Nebraska
Shaun Cody or Kevin Burnett would also work. |

i agree. a good defensive line can do a lot more to help our secondary than drafting S's. however i don't think we can significantly improve our D-Line through the draft like we'd have to. i imagine that we will end up drafting a D Lineman though in the first round just because the pool quality first round DB's is small and it seems like there are some good looking D Lineman in the draft.
i'd like to see us with Davis or Poole just because we have no S's at all and we don't seem to be making any moves for FA. but if some like Pollek or James is available i would have to lean that way. Crowder should be around in the 2nd round and we could probably trade up for him if need be and the desire is that bad.
still hope that we can sign Simmons to help bolster our LB corp since Ed Hartwell is now in the "dirty south"....... what other quality FA are there? anyone here anything new about Donovan Darius?

_________________
