Rob Bironas, RFA, Tennessee Titans
Over the course of the ’05 and ’06 seasons with the Titans, Bironas kicked five game-winning field goals, which accounted for nearly half of the team’s twelve wins over that span. He has a strong leg and has converted a 60-yard field goal for a win— the longest field goal in franchise history. He also set an NFL record in 2007, when he connected on eight field goal attempts, and he converted 89.7 percent of his attempts this past season. Bironas will be a RFA, reducing the likelihood that he leaves the Titans at cost to another team. There are definitely some teams that wouldn’t mind acquiring the 29-year old.
Predicted 2008 Team: Titans – Pro Bowl kickers who are RFAs don’t change scenery much.
Josh Brown UFA Seattle Seahawks
Brown was in the same position last season, and the Seahawks signed him for another season because of how reliable he has tended to be. The 2007 season was no different. He was successful on 28 of 34 field goal attempts, and his misses were all been from a distance of more than 40 yards. He also converted all 43 of his extra point attempts. The safest bet is that Seattle will sign him to another contract at season’s end.
Predicted 2008 Team: Seahawks – Brown could leave for more money, but Seattle wants to keep him around.
