Baltimore Ravens - RB, WR, OG
In Baltimore, Jamal Lewis just hasn’t proven to be the answer. He’s shown flashes of his old self, but then quickly reverts into a sluggish and uninspired runner. With head coach Brian Billick now running the offense, the second half will go a long way in determining Lewis’ fate. The Ravens will also likely look to add depth at the wide receiver position since Derrick Mason is getting older. As a safety maneuver, the team could strengthen the offensive line at guard. Age factors largely into the decisions that management will face while scouting players.
Cincinnati Bengals - OL, DT, S , TE
The Bengals don’t have a lot of needs at the moment, since the team has compiled a solid group of youth to develop together, but there are a few areas to improve upon. The offensive line is intact, but it won’t hurt to draft a player that can take over a spot in the future with veteran Willie Anderson aging. There are two more spots that should receive attention, though. Defensive tackle can be addressed since Sam Adams won’t be around much longer and Bryan Robinson will need help if he is still being used. A safety could be added to fit into head coach Marvin Lewis’ system. At tight end, the team has an effective blocker, but a true receiving tight end could make the offense even more dangerous.
Cleveland Browns - DE, DT, OG
At the defensive end and defensive tackle spots, the team will need to get younger and find pass rushers who can apply pressure more than the current group that includes 38-year old Ted Washington. The Browns will have to improve the defense by starting up front. One other area of significant need is at offensive guard. The current guard tandem may not be around after the season, so it will be crucial that the Browns think about an acquisition early. Charlie Frye could use more time and Reuben Droughns could use more room to run.
Pittsburgh Steelers - RB, WR, OL
There is no doubt that Willie Parker is an NFL running back, but Duce Staley and Verron Haynes haven’t shown that they can really replace “The Bus”. The team will likely try to find a short-yardage back somewhere in the draft. Although wide receiver Santonio Holmes was made the team’s first round selection, depth is an issue at the position, but Hines Ward continues to shine. The Steelers could be on the prowl for a left tackle, and could use help to improve the pass-blocking.
