Denver Broncos - WR, S, DT
With the acquisition of Jay Cutler, one future need was knocked off for the Broncos, but the wide receiver position is also one to pay close attention to. Javon Walker has played well at times, but at season’s end, Rod Smith will be close to done. The position will need a good deal of work and the draft and free agency will both be places that the Broncos look. As for defense, the team is fairly set, but safety John Lynch will have to pack it sometime, so the team should start looking for his replacement heading into the 2007 draft, even though he was signed to an extension. Lynch can tutor a young player. It is also possible that the team looks to add a defensive tackle early in the draft to bring in youth and depth.
Kansas City Chiefs - WR, OL, CB, DT
An important need comes at the wide receiver position as Eddie Kennison is aging, and the other receivers have not stepped up and played as well as hoped. The offensive line is still one of the best in the business, but Willie Roaf has been missed. The Chiefs will be looking for some young line talent in the draft. On defense, the cornerback position will benefit from a young addition, and a defensive tackle upgrade will help Jared Allen, so both will be points of emphasis when the team considers possible upgrades. The linebacker corps looks good, but a little depth never hurt anyone.
Oakland Raiders - QB, RB, OL, DT
If Oakland isn’t confident in Andrew Walter being the quarterback of the future, the team could spend a draft pick on another. Some are already clamoring for Brady Quinn. As for running back, Lamont Jordan has the job, but there is a lack of depth that will need to be addressed. If Jordan doesn’t get help, he’ll take a pounding. The offensive line needs plenty of work, as tackle Robert Gallery might not be cutting it, and the guard spot could use immediate help. On the other side of things, Warren Sapp has played well, and Terdell Sands has been a pleasant surprise, but the team will need a young defensive tackle in the very near future.
San Diego Chargers - LB, WR, OG
Age concerns at the linebacker position will be on the minds of Chargers representatives come next off season. Shawne Merriman has been incredible, and while Donnie Edwards has been a sure thing, the position will still require depth and fresh blood because of injuries and other issues. On offense, Keenan McCardell has been the main wide receiver in San Diego for awhile now, but the team will need help there considering his age and the rest of the group. Philip Rivers will benefit from increased talent at the position. The offensive guard position isn’t a desperate need, but it would be a good idea to add depth at the spot. The team has few extreme needs, but they could use depth at the positions mentioned.
